Home built boards
I just wanted to stop and see how my fellow LED obsessive compulsive gardeners are. My project to switch my 10*10 over to LED is going great. My assembly time per board is now about an hour, and they work flawlessly almost every time, with oddities getting farther apart. Is there a reason I can’t se...

Re: Samsung sets new Photon Efficacy Level
They’re from Kingbrite. I wouldn’t want to trust most Alibaba suppliers too much. It is just too hard to verify their claims, but I’m pretty comfortable using their circuit boards. Cool. I don't know that I want to do many boards with hundreds of emitters each, but I'll keep them in mind if I want ...

Re: Samsung sets new Photon Efficacy Level
Yep I shelled out for a steel one. I’ve been planning this for quite some time and my grow space is fairly large. My investment into lighting wasn’t small, but considering the quality of the fixtures and the size of the grow I feel like I stole the bank. I’m less than 3k into it, and all the major s...

Re: Samsung sets new Photon Efficacy Level
At first I used a 20G blunt tip dispensing needle and applied it by hand on each pad but once I committed to transitioning my entire indoor garden to LEDs from HID, a stencil made it a helluva lot less work.

Re: Samsung sets new Photon Efficacy Level
I thought my experience with star boards would come in handy but with the 288 boards I had a really hard time getting them right. At least 300 chips sacrificed themselves while I was getting the technique zeroed in. Now that I’ve gotten past that phase they will align themselves to an extent but if ...

174*286*1.6mm aluminum, 288x5630 chips wired 16s18p. It has been a seriously long learning curve but I’m pretty well set up finally and my fabrication is going smoothly, more or less. My cost per board is less than $20, not including heatsinks and drivers.

Re: Samsung sets new Photon Efficacy Level
I have been mounting lm561c chips to MCPCBs rather than buy prebuilt fixtures. The real cost of building them is remarkably less than any I found for sale. Even the cheapest Chinese brands would be far more expensive to buy than the amount I spent on components. Not to mention I can't help but think...

I am excited to get some of em. They’re probably going to be expensive little buggers.

Re: Reflow soldering
Thanks for the info! So Kingbrite sold you the bare PCBs? Did you design the PCBs yourself or did they have some ready made designs? How much were the 200 PCBs? What are the dimensions of each PCB? Lots of questions, I know. Sorry! Thanks! No problem! It’s pretty cool to be in an active forum, most...
