Re: Humble beginnings

Spent quite some time this past week playing around with esp and home assistant. I switched from a VM on my Mac to a raspberry pi as a main server, so far so good. I had some cheap amazon gosund wp3 plugs that I hadn’t set up yet, so before setting up with home assistant I used the pi to run the tuy...

Re: Watering system help

As I was warned the solenoids did not work, not even a trickle. using the diaphragm pump and adding a bunch of pressure (and the pump being much louder) didn’t feel right. I ended up making the “main” manifold using some manual valves with two reservoirs. I’ll stick with manual solenoids for now and...

Re: Looking for Somebody to Help Me with some Arduino/C Questions/Issues

Yeah, after looking at your code again; I don't think what you're running in to is a consequence of what he's describing there (or at least my interpretation of it). Seems like payload is shared so if you call publish inside the callback; payload will be overwritten. Seems like for all the cases you...

Re: Looking for Somebody to Help Me with some Arduino/C Questions/Issues

I created an issue on the repo with my thoughts. Hoping to get a closer look this weekend.

Re: Watering system help

I went ahead and ordered one each of the above; would love to hear your alls opinions on what would work best. I'm pretty new to all this electronics type stuff. When seeing wiring diagrams for certain things I notice that some stuff such as LEDs require resistors; is there a basic kit of things tha...

Re: Watering system help

Ok, I lied, I'll keep all the watering system stuff on here as I have more questions and makes more sense. So I set up my first ESP8266 sensor yesterday with ESPHome (after struggling for hours with an esp32 I hit a wall). I got some magnetic float sensors with the idea that they could be what cause...

Re: Watering system help

Thanks everyone. I'll be working on some variation of this in the coming week. I've got parts coming in the next few days and will hopefully get some variation of it up and running in the coming week. I'll share my experience in my "Humble Beginnings" thread going forward as I plan it being my long ...

Re: Watering system help

Thanks for the links. Motorized Ball valves, Didn't know those were a thing; a bit pricier than the solenoids though which might be a tough sell for me. I found some solenoids on ebay that said they were for gravity drip (much lower PSI rating) I might order a few of those just to try as well; altho...

Re: Watering system help

Auto Dosing/ph are going to potentially be a future project. Ledg, That’s disappointing to hear as I just purchased that same vivosun pump and a bunch of those cheap 12v solenoids from eBay. Guess I’ll be trying to cancel that pump order and going for a beefier pump. Any recommendation on size? I’d ...
