Max Wattage on 480h-54A?

i Have an HLG-480-54A driver powering two Qb96 engines in parallel. When i turn up the wattage all the way to the right (full power) the wattage goes up to 617-618 watts. That's the wattage being drawn from the wall when i read it off the Kill-a-Watt (p3). I have it set at 440w.

So my questions are, why does it read 617-18watts when its rated at 480? Is it possible to add a Quantum Board to this setup? particularly, a QB288 v2.

Thank you in advance.

I brought a killawat style extension cable, and have two 75 drivers and a small fan on it. Suddenly it started claiming I was using over 1000w. I just decided the extension cable broke down, but will follow out of interest.

I actually have 2 kill-a-watts and tried them both with multiple outlets. Same. 617-18watts.

Hey, what is the Temp °c of your driver ?
Maybe are you in this zone?

Can you test with a multi-meter A and V in you circuit ?

Anyway, you're driving this things to their limit, so ... Efficiency dropping down everywhere in your system

welcome to the forum first off..

that's definitely not right.. something is off.. my hlg-480h-54B only pulls 480w from the wall on max.after it's warmed up it stays right at 475w. the A type " should " be at least 500w wide open.. seems all my A types run about 15-20 watts over what they say when cranked wide open.. 80w pulls 100w.. the 120w pulls 135 ish.. etc..

like C.P. mentioned.. what temps is your driver running at? that point he circled could be the cause.. or my only other thought is a mess up internally in the driver..

again welcome

Did you test other equipment on the killawatt to make sure the problem is not with the measurement itself?

Thank you for the welcome.

I dont think i'm setting the driver to it's limit, im probably running it at 60% 65%. I'm no electrician, matter of fact, building this rig was somewhat daunting due to the fact that i'm scared of electricity and exposed wires. lol, So i don't have a multi-meter to check the Amps and Volts.

I checked the driver's temperature with a laser thermometer and right on the logo it reads: 98F (36.5-6ishC) above the logo:100f (37.8-9ishC).

I'm sure my ol'man has a multimeter somewhere in the garage. guess i can drink some coffee and get crackin' on this.

Yes. I have a Viparspectra v1200 and the kill-a-watt read it at 516w. its advertised at 520. Also have a v600 rated at 260 watts. meter reads it at 262. So, i guess the meter is not at fault.

When i first Started this Qb project, I first ordered my Driver from arrow.com. They sent the wrong Version of the 480H-54a. It didn't have the A (Adjustable=dimming). Not sure why, but they allowed me to keep the Diver along with a full refund. So i have a brand new 480H-54 just sitting there. I guess i can replace this Driver with the 54a and check out the wattage. But it's a lazy Sunday. lol.

All the way to the right, you 're at max of your driver, and above the QBs witch are rated 4A Max (8.9/2 = 4.45)
You must run at something like 56.7V x 8.9 = 504W. That must be possible with an A that (listening to Wizard JGG) can over-match the characteristics.
I don't understand why you think you are running à 60 % ?
if you get down to 54V (get a multi-meter), V is very simple to measure, your system should give 54 x 5.6 A= 302W, and probably take 310-320 from the wall (efficiency). Getting a "A" or "B" type without at least a multi-meter is not a good idea (for me)

a QB288 V2 is rated 48 V, your QB96 is 54 V, I think that if you find something to serial with it around 6V/10W you could // it with the 2x96.

When i DO turn it all the way to the right (%100) it reads 615watts. But i've dialed it back and set it to 440w. That's why i think im running at %60-65.
