Do you think the size of the trunk makes a big difference? I have told people a few times that I believe without a wide trunk to suck through water and nutrients it can only go so far but then they show me big results with tiny trucks so I don't know who is right or wrong
I think big, even manifold makes a difference....but is necessary, not sufficient....
Also need a healthy, appropriately sized top and matching roots....

Cambium (xylem=water mvmt, phloem=nute mvmt) is located at the outer layers of the trunk...,as diam increases, so does circumference; and hence, cambium increases, boosting capacity for water and food movement.

But most important to bumping yield, imo, is the evenness of flow....that the manifold contributes...,maximized by controlling apical dominance with even tops (by pulling higher tops below lower tops, a dynamic process; it’s partly why my tiedowns are below canopy, which almost certainly requires wheels to rotate plant, blah, blah, blah).

Large diam provides capacity, but is more the result of great flow, than the cause of it....

One other point, i don’t think genetics itself has much to do, directly, with trunk size....i agree that genetics affects everything, but a healthy plant with no critical space or environmental issues will produce a big diam stem...all my manifolds almost completely fill out 3” net cups by harvest, regardless of strain/pheno...and i typically do 4 diff strains per 4x4 (unlike this grow)....

Thats a seriously good link OG!!
To clarify before the Aperol effect hits - a node is each new point of growth on the main stem yes? So pic below is 2 nodes at topping point?
top-to-3rd-node-sm.jpg

On ya cuzzy, if work permits I'll try a manifold vs my top everything that gets taller method (if thats even a method  )
A node is the place true leaves originate, lateral primordia are located in the leaf axils.

Yeah, give it a shot, you might like it.

That site has lots of great info ...search on defoliation, for example.....

Cannabis produces pairs of opposite nodes in early growth; later single nodes are alternately spaced, but still in pairs.

Notice that succeeding node pairs (whether opposite or alternate) are at 90 degree offset from preceeding pair...this is why manifold topping is usually only done at odd (or even)numbered pairs of nodes, to keep mains in same plane...

EC dropped another 0.8 over 2 days...bumped her up to 2.5....expectin to find the upper limit soon...she’s one hungry mother!!!

Btw @Randomblame , got a bunch of 3-blade fans in these tents...i think i remember you saying that those are prized...if so, maybe you should learn tissue culture...we’ll see if they go back to normal...

they look especially happy under prawns boards, interesting. All are getting the exact same nute strength,? These are clones I suppose this will be interesting!

My goal is to give all 3 tents the exact same everything, as long as each can handle it...if one tent has issues, i’ll probably back things down in all tents...we’ll see how it goes and if i’m up to it....

Yep, same nutes, same dosage....differences at this point reflect the size and strength of each cutting when they came out of cloner...my goal is to overcome these diffs by end of training....we’ll see...

Wanted to pass along what appears to be a great addition; i’ll be watching @StickyBudHound ‘s next grow,if these things work out, may add them to my wheels:

Tolerating 2.5 ec pretty well..

Mr Vader, thanks for the heads up on nodes and orientation, something that was not included in the link, I actually think I get it :D

We will see whats alive by the time I get home to play with.....

Mama, day 10 from flip: Lookin like a monster, 2.5 ec didn’t even phase her, she downed 0.8 ec yesterday, starting to close in on 9 sq ft footprint. So much for “small” plant & “experimental” lights!

Tops starting to stack the nodes closely, 7-10 days from stars lighting up, is my guess.
