Is it overkill if I build one of the 5x5 builds on site in a 4x4 grow space? I assume that would be the same as putting a 1000w hps in a 4x4 space, which is considered optimal. Is it different with LED?

There's nothing like prepping and planning for your first grow.

I'm my mind, 4 chambers are required for a perpetual grow:
  1. Veg
  2. Flower
  3. germinating/rooting
  4. dry/curing
It doesn't matter whether they're separate rooms or extremely light-proof sections of a single room.

Then you are going to have to maintain (fairly accurately), temp and humidity in all chambers, as well.

All of this, while learning the fundamentals of growing weed from seed.

It's a lot to take on. Good luck,.

A major advantage LED has over HID (except CMH, I hear) - is dimming.

It’s my opinion that you can’t have too much power (in reserve).

So build a 600W fixture, but be aware of the needs of your garden.
