Can you exceed max stated wattage for the A types like HLG 240h 24a? It's supposed to be adjustable to a max of 25.6V and max amps is 10. Does that mean it will be possible to draw 10A at 25.6V?

That's a great question.

From my understanding once the driver hits its maximum output in CV mode it will switch into CC mode.

Of course 'A' type drivers are rumored to exceed their rated specs by a small but not insignificant amount so its entirely possible you can get 256watts from your HLG 240H 24A.

Got a HLG-240-42A (5,72A max and 45V max so about 257W according to datasheet) with 3 COB in parallel. Draws a maximum of 6,67A@about 38.5V (only have one multimeter...) when fully cranked which is about 255W.
My guess would be the answer to your question is yes

Ouch that's a bit scary. This means you can't rely on the driver to limit current even though it shouldn't be adjustable to more than 5.72A?

I'm looking into this because I'm considering a 42V driver for Samsung Q Series instead of a 48V. I'm at around 44V on the calculator (depending on the target current of course)
