Nice, welcome. Generally speaking for lighting a 12 square feet, you'd want to have at least 50 watts of hps lighting per square foot. The 1000w hps over a 4x4 is kinda the gold standard and comes out to 62w per square foot. In terms of LM561C lighting, I think 40w per square foot is a good and easy metric to shoot for. If I were going to add to strips around the 400w hps, I'd add somewhere between 100-200 watts worth of strips. What are the dimensions around your light?

hood is 18 or 20 inches long by 8/10 inches wide, 5/6 inch height

I want to put strips on the outer 3 sides of it. It is vented on both ends, one has it coming from the filter.....other end goes right out the room and in the exhaust filter.

The side where it goes out of the room, the left side, i do not plan to add strips. I was looking to add about 150/180 watts to it.

The 2 foot strips are actually 22 inches and the 1 footers are actually 11 inches. I dont know if you could get to 180w with just 3 strips, maybe the F series with the double row led could get there, but that would be running it at full power.

Have you thought about using 4 cobs on the corners? Running each at 50w without a fan would be easy, and it would have a better light spread than the strips.

really going for low, low heat and efficiency.

I would need 3590, i had my eye on the newer Vero's but once the summer comes back around i will need to ditch the HPS.

but the vero 29/gen 7 are just too hot and use too much juice compared to the cree 3590 and once you move to a good amount of LM561 strips....even the cree are hot and just a good bit of ele.

I am setting up to maxmaixe my space and have a alt. lighting method for the summer cuz i cannot ac my whole house down to 70f to keep hps year round. Shit, even 76f is a 200 ele bill without an hps, fan, and everything.

So i am trying to get a few good strips established every few months so when june rolls back around, i am 100% led

Check out the Samsung F series on digikey https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/ ... ND/6624005 , I would get either the Meanwell hlg 480h 48a/b or the Meanwell hlg 600h 48a/b. The 480 or 600 corresponds to their respective wattage outputs. That way you wont have to buy another driver when you junk the HPS system.

Yeah I think a 480H would do nicely in that space once you replace the HPS. Plan on about 1200 LM561C. You could pick up the driver now and run however many strips you want on it, then just add more when you’re ready.

I was trying to get this done cheaper. I also plan to use two drivers so i can have say 3000k & 5000k going, run both 12hrs a day, 18hrs day for 5k during veg, 18hr of 3k flower. so one of them would be off 6hrs a day.

Also would like the ability to dim one shade (3 or 5k) and keep the other at 100%

dumb idea or am i on to something...?

Nothing dumb about that at all. What do you have in mind for control of the system? Just a couple timers?

since i began my closet venture has grown and expanded. Ive bought all sorts of electric timers, controllers for just a temp, etc.

all in all, is just a bunch of shit product from china. I operate on mechanical timers now and things are perfect.
