3500k and veg.

I have been using the eb gen 2 3500k in veg for a couple of weeks and some atreum 144.2 boards (which are 4000k) in a seperate tent.

I'm not sold on 3500k being as good of a vegging spectrum. I've run plants of different sizes, ages in both and the 4k gets better results. Healthy plants, with faster growth rates.

I thinking of flicking the ebs into the flower room and running 4k minimum veg. Anyone else have any experiance running different specs in veg?

If people have veg lights they are generally 4000k or higher, so I think it's pretty well understood. With LEDs many people feel they can run the whole thing with 3000-3500k, so many people do that. I don't think they are trying to say this is the optimum veg spectrum, they just feel they can get away with it and avoid getting a second light.

EB gen2's are so cheap now that its pretty easy to grab a few 5000k strips to test for vegging.

I was hoping for better results under the ebs and then be able to run straight to flower. But the time lost in veg isnt worth it.

Luckily I doubled up on drivers when I ordered and need some side lighting in flower. I will try the 5k strips.

When your using side lighting remember that the growth direction of the plant will be directed to the highest kelvin light source, rather then the most intense source of light. I had a green crack stretching 10cm per day, and when I put 5000k sides, the stretch moved into the side branches over night. Top didn't grow a single cm and sides streched over 10cm the next day. Will be doing much more research with that, but my first test certainly gave a clear result.

Personally I find its the environment, more then the light that sets the speed of veg, with node distances and their response to kelvin changes varying even within strains. In my last pheno hunts I've seen strains that would not grow the way I wanted without HID in veg, and others I would like to test 6500k or even higher with. Having some ability for tuning is a blessing.

Thats interesting. I have low ceiling space in flower and need to scrog. I will have to try to shape the plants with the side light source.

Yes, I had read about this in research, but I was absolutly shocked on how it played out in practice. I am trying it again on a couple of different plants this round to get a better feeling on the process, and also to get a different idea on how it affects at different growth stages.
The plant I was working with last round was a green crack with a rather vine like growth pattern, and maybe 250% stretch. This round I will test on an El Chapo and a NL#5 x haze. All topped once.

I made 4 4foot bars of 5000k, that I can hang above or on the sides, with the price of EB's they cost less then 10e each. I figured I can also use the high K light sources after bulk during ripening.
