ePAR. The next big thing? Iluminar thinks so.

A catch-all category for LED-related questions, content, news, rumors, or whatever. If it doesn’t fit elsewhere, put it here.

So it seems the work of the good doctor's Bugbee and Zhen on Extended PAR is getting some acceptance at some LED grow light manufacturers and Illuminar seems to be a believer with an extended ePAR spectrum offering on their 630 watt iLogic8 which can also be ordered with Illuminar's more traditional full spectrum light instead. Supposedly this ePAR spectrum will also be offered in many other Illuminar models, like the 1000 watt iL9x, but I see no way to order that spectrum on any other model yet.

Illuminar is definitely a spectrum believer so it's not out of step for them to make such an offering. Here's some in-house videos about the iLogic 8, ePAR and some articles making their case that as efficacy/efficiency increases, spectrum becomes more important.

Articles:
"Japanese researcher, Katsumi Inada, discovered that as light intensity increases, plants become more “choosy” when it comes to spectral quality. When light levels are low, plants are like a hungry man at a buffet—they’ll take whatever they can! However, as light intensity increases, in order to achieve a proportional increase in photosynthesis (photosynthetic yield), the light spectrum has to be right."

"Of course, these fixtures may well have lower PPF and PPE numbers than “PAR-only” grow lights, but the plant response, yield and crop quality are all that really matters."

Bugbee on ePAR and Apogee ePAR meters:

Personally without individual spectrum control I would be really nervous about flipping my sativas doms to flower with as much FR light the iLogic8 puts out, (can you say stretch much?), and that's why you have to like something like Optic Grow Light's Slim650S, https://opticledgrowlights.com/products ... 650w-uv-ir or ChilLED's upcoming, fully contollable, 5 channel, dual UV with FR add-on bar, https://chilledgrowlights.com/our-produ ... -light-bar, (can you say probably sold out already  ).
