Hey guys been researching LEDs for a small cupboard grow.

I'm currently using 150w cfl

I'm looking at a dyi kit HLG 135w for $350 aud.

Just wondering if I could do better sourcing the parts myself and get a bit more watts for similar price.

Any advice would be appricated.

Thanks guys

Sourcing from an Alibaba supplier can get significantly cheaper (in the range of 50% less), especially when ordering in bulk. Finding an honest supplier on Alibaba is already a far trickier matter. Don't expect any customer service either.

For boards, I personally stick with HLG. You know that you're getting a quality-controlled product, and you know that you're getting what's been advertised. Some people have been fortunate to get good deals on good boards from Alibaba, but I've seen too many of these Quantum Board copies prove to be something other than what was claimed, diode-wise. Honestly, you're better off using Samsung F strips than boards anyway. You're certain to get legit LM561C diodes with Samsung strips.

since ya mentioned AUD... check out cutter electronics.. http://www.cutter.com.au/categories.php

they have something called a sol-skin... very similar to a QB... even options for 460nm/660nm channels on the boards.. they also have strips for builds and monos..

I'm sure a Aussie based supplier would help with duties and shipping not being added on 😁

Cheers for all the suggestions.

I looked at the 2x2 builds suggested on this site.

If I go with the 12 bridgelux BXEB-L0280Z-35E1000-C-A3

Am I right to assume I can get this driver
HLG-120H-20A to avoid having to set up a external dimmer?

Thanks for the advice so far

The Eb series is great, can't really go wrong with that, but there are some benefits to the vesta's too. 90cri, spectrum control etc.

The a3 on the end of your model number indicates you are getting the gen 1 strips. You would need a 24v driver.

Of you find the BXEB-L0280Z-35E1000-C-b3 those are the gen 2's and you will need the 20v driver.
