Is that so..? If I see a Samsung press release stating this I'm giving up any DIY-Alibaba order and paying the premium for HLG. I was under the impression they source from a reputable Alibaba factory, but if they get an actual, bona fide Samsung seal of approval that's a major leap of quality assurance. And time for start a European warehouse too :)

yea I kinda want a see the press release also.. Steve was saying the new boards after this last batch was made are going to carry the Samsung logo.

bah!! I forgot to ask Steve about the U.K. distributor. he should be up and running by now.

I kind of want to also know who the number 1 buyer of Samsung diodes is... hlg 1 on east coast 2 in the US.

Putting the Samsung logo by itself isn't really a partnership though, is it? I mean, a shop that puts a Coca Cola sign outside and sells coke wouldn't really be an official partner. Also saying Samsung "knows and approves" means little without seeing Samsung say it themselves.

An official partnership between one of the biggest electronic companies in the world and their self-proclaimed 2nd-biggest distributor in the USA should get at the very least an update on their site, if not a proper press release.

My understanding is that an official partnership means Samsung would be listening to HLG in regards to production (e.g., the current 90CRI shortage) and R&D (e.g., playing with cannabis-specific spectrum). If Samsung really is getting into this, with their production scale and research department, this can be the start of some major, major, MAJOR developments to the whole field. It's almost too-good-to-be-true.

Having said that, one can spill the beans before an official announcement is made, and I'm not that big of a skeptic. I want this to be true. As I've said, I'd be super happy to order from a HLG-UK supplier if this is the real deal.

Thanks for the link, JGG. I was super excited to see that shoutout!

This is some big news. I eagerly await the official announcement from Samsung as well.

Steve also said he will be using a shop or building a shop for production of the boards... Maybe populating them, He also said it should reduce costs for the consumer. = O

I chatted with an alibaba supplier called Hansen, that seems to claim that HLG was their customer. The claim came from Hansen advising small customers to buy directly from their customer HLG.

In my communication with Hansen they said they supplied some thousands of QB's, which hardly made HLG seem like a huge customer of Samsung... How big are they stateside? seems you have a lot of different companies competing in LEDs, hard to imagine anyones market share is huge.

Here in Finland we have valoya who claim to be a huge supplier for European greenhouses. No doubt HLG deserves Lumiyas crown, as Lumiya sells lights that produce 2.1 umol/J at like 10$ per w.

I got into custom leds because I was invited into a project converting a 2000m2 greenhouse to modern standards... the project collapsed, but the interest stayed.

I was calculating that using Lumiya lights we would need a couple of million euros, and end up with very few light fixtures per m2, being forced to drive leds hard. No hope to build a setup bringing lights up close when hardware is that expensive. Somehow I feel QB's, or lets say larger modules are inefficient compared to strips or smaller modules, because smaller modules allow better distribution and proximity.

help someone across the pond understand this then??? ( from the CE marking Wikipedia page)

Not all products need CE marking to be traded in the EEA; only product categories subject to relevant directives or regulations are required (and allowed) to bear CE marking. Most CE-marked products can be placed on the market subject only to an internal production control by the manufacturer (Module A; see Self-certification, below), with no independent check of the conformity of the product with EU legislation; ANEC has cautioned that, amongst other things, CE marking cannot be considered a "safety mark" for consumers.

I bet that cheap Chinese Blurple junk and cobs aren't CE marked either.

I'm curious how the v2 HLG - specific Samsung top bin diodes compare to the new Hinflux available on digikey.
