New to this forum. Been growing with HID for 17 years but looking to make the jump into LEDS. I am looking to build my own and after much research I'm leaning to the bridgelux gen3 strip. I am looking to cover a 4x8 table. I am thinking 30 strips....is that enough/over kill? Also what drivers would work best? Or would there be a better bang for my buck? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Some Calculations...
4 ft x 8 ft = 32 sq ft or ~ 3.2 m2 (sq m)
Equivalent to two (2) 4 ft x 4 ft LED Fixtures.

Recommendation based on PPFD and Efficient LEDs (Strips and Boards) sized by Grow Area:

1... @ 60 PPF (per 0.1 sq m Late Veg. - Flowering @ 600 PPFD) * 32 = 1920 PPF
1920 PPF / 2.5 PPE(PPF/W) = ~ 768 Watts
1920 PPF / 72 PPF each (BXEB-L1120Z-35E4000-C-C3, Gen3 1120mm) = 27 strips (729 Watts)

2... @ 80 PPF (per 0.1 sq m CO2 Enhanced Flower @ 800 PPFD) * 32 = 2560 PPF
2560 PPF / 2.5 PPE(PPF/W) = ~ 1024 Watts
2560 PPF / 72 PPF each (BXEB-L1120Z-35E4000-C-C3, Gen3 1120mm) = 36 strips (972 Watts)

[Note; 2.5 PPE = ~ 167 Lm/W * 0.015 (Generic 4000K, 80 CRI PPF/Lm factor)]

I assume this is for a Flower room?

And when you say 30 strips why size are you talking about.

I run 30 4ft (approx.) strips, and find my results to comparable to a 1000w HPS. However, I feel like ideally I need 40, and will be adding soon. My recomendation is for a 4x4 table you should run 20 (4ft) strips at .7A for optimal efficiency and not needing a heatsink. You would just need aluminum angle for mounting.

Your calculations are off. I'm running 15 1120mm strips at 1641 umols/s. 27 strips would be way more than 1920 PPF.

Yes, probably.
I prefer being conservative with the calculations, "Running Soft" (with the Current / mA).

The Total PPF (umol/s) for twenty seven (27) 1120mm, 3500K, 80 CRI BXEB Gen3 LED Strips actually calculates out to;
PPF ~ 2017 (umol/s) @ 729 Watts. That's;
PPF 74.7 (umol/s) per Strip [4980 Lm * 0.015 PPF/Lm] @
27 Watts each for a
PPE 2.76 (umol/W)

Just curious, what is your Watts (Vdc * A) for the 15 strips @ PPF 1641 (umol/s)?... Thanks

BTW,
27 Strips can output ~ 3630 umol/s (PPF) maximum driven "Very Hard" at ~ 1458 Watts, PPE 2.49 (umol/W), @ 25°C Tc, requiring "Heavy Duty" Heatsinking...

30 Strips can output ~ 2241 umol/s (PPF) driven "Soft / Typical" at ~ 810Watts, PPE 2.76 (umol/W), @ 25°C Tc, requiring "minimal" Heatsinking...

30 Strips can output ~ 4033 umol/s (PPF) maximum driven "Very Hard" at ~ 1620Watts, PPE 2.49 (umol/W), @ 25°C Tc, requiring "Heavy Duty" Heatsinking...

I’m interested in the final decision made on your builds. I built the gen 2 4x4 480 watt light. I’m looking to add onto this light for my next flower. Was thinking to add 6-8 more strips and add a hlg-240. Are the gen 3 strips worth the money? I can get the driver with the gen 2 strips for the price of just the gen 3 strips?
Looking to better my grows, appreciate advice from the forum.

Current strips are mounted on 1/8” aluminum u channel.

Thanks...

542 Watts * PPE 2.76 ( Optimal @ 25°C Tc) = Only ~ 1495 umol/s (PPF)
