Hello, I'm new to the forums but been lurking for a while having caught the LED bug. I can say everything I know I've learned from either youtube (growmau5, LED gardener, greengenes, gml) or forums, so just a diy and not expert on anything lol. Really just here to learn and share about my favorite hobby.

First off, I know we all love quantum boards but in in some cases like myself can't always afford them (I'm a micro grower using 2 QB120's run in parallel over 1.5' x 2' space). So I decided to shop around and ended up ordering some boards straight from the source in Shenzen, from companies named: Meiju, Bava, and now Bright. Posted below are some of the boards they offer and my own diy heatsink made with riveted aluminum.

I know there is a lot of debate regarding the authenticity of these diodes and they may not be, but alibaba has quite the trade assurance policy if you have an issue with quality or authenticity. The fact that the diodes have 4 solder poits and a faint black zener diode lead me to believe they are maybe real but I may be dead wrong. Anyways, here they are..

Shenzen Bava 2x 288pc. board in 3500K 54V 2700mA. basically generic 200W quantum board build. HLG 185H-54A 94% eff.

Thx for sharing!
Can you post dimensions too?
Did you take temperature readings at different currents?

are those a serious alternative to samsung strip builds? can somebody tell if they use genuine samsung LEDs and if they are good quality in general?

thank you for sharing.. definitely let us know how they work.. and if you got the tools maybe some par readings and multimeter reading? the more info the better to see how good they compare.

I tend to steer away from alibaba... I know there are a few good vendors that use what they say... but there's just so many bad ones that lie and cheap out I don't want to sort thru 1000 vendors to find the 1 or 2 good ones.

I like how the one looks like a photon fantom pattern 😄

@ Grower, dimensions:

2x 288pc 200W Bava board 3000K was 18" x 13"
240pc 110W (dimmable) Meiju 3000K board was 16" x 10" x 3"
128pc 65W Meiju 3000K board: 11.5" x 7.25"
288pc Meiju 3500K 110W board 12" x 7.25"
all measurements including heatsink

Don't have a laser thermometer but the Meiju 288pc 48V board and the 240pc board got pretty warm, almost hot (perhaps my heatsink design needs more fins :) I didn't run the 200W board long enough to see before it sold on ebay. All of these sans a 65W kit have sold on ebay, as I'm raising funds for a bulk digikey strip purchase soon. I'll list what they for below.

I did stick a cheap lux meter under them and the 2x 288pc showed 90000 from 8", 240pc about 60000, and similar with the Meiju 288. 128pc board came in at 40000 @ about 8" away and as you can tell not scientific at all haha. No par meter, just lux.

@ tazztone:

Like I said, it is hard to determine whether they are or not, perhaps only a Samsung employee or an intergrated sphere could tell. I will post a pic of what one of the sellers sent me to help though.

As for being replacements for strips, I think you can get a better more controlled spread with strips so no. Rather, these are just generic quantum boards bought from mfgs. in China where most US sold boards come from. More chips than strips but that many on one pcb almost always requires heatsinks, as with strips heatsinks are usually not as bulky. F-Series strips are my end goal, just hustling together some cash in the meantime.

Prices sold for:
2x 288pc 3500K, meanwell HLG 185h-54 $200+ shipping
240pc 3000K, lrs driver $107+ shipping
288pc 3500K, lrs driver $100+ shipping
128pc 65W kit $73+ shipping

pic sent to "prove" authenticity lol

@ Jolly Green Giant, yeah ik what you mean alibaba is def a tough place to navigate  As far as them looking like photon phantoms, yeah similar but apparently there is a dude in Spain selling them under the name Heaven grow lights on ig. Perhaps Meiju is his mfg and I stumbled across it. They do do screen printing, but minimum order for that was 100pcs, i just got "samples" which were pretty reasonable even after shipping.

Thx for the info!
I am interested to know what's the max current to run the board without heatsink. If they are cheap enough to be run at low currents they could be an alternative to strips, why not? Many diodes @ low currents = Same result as with strips, just easier mounting without heatsinks.
I got quoted from Meiju for 5xboards at 25-30usd/pc+shipping. Probably price is higher for less boards.
MW drivers are cheaper from china for you?
Btw L-channels you use as heatsinks shouldn't be touching the board?

Hey Grower, I'll post the mfg's info on the boards, but yeah if run in parallel you'd be able to get them more effiecient.

The Meanwell drivers I bought domestically, from LED Supply for the lrs 100 36 & 48 (both $16.09 free ship.), the HLG 185 off ebay ($30), and also there are cheap lrs 100 24 drivers on ebay for $14 free shipping!

And you are right, prob should have the angled aluminum fins touching the boards for better dissipation. Too late now as they are all sold, and only the buyer of the 288pc. Meiju board mentioned it got pretty warm.

Bava board specs:
Same as QB288 54V 2700-3000mA max (18 series x 16 parallel)

Meiju board specs from mfg.:
288pc 3500K 52-130W,48V,1080-2700mA
240pc. board: 38-112W, 1200-3000mA 32.4V-37.2V
128pc. board: 20-60W, 43.2-49.6V,480-1200mA

i like that they are on aluminum PCB rather than epoxy which is better for heat disappation (right?).
and since they are cheaper and in RIU forum they more or less confirmed that they are good quality. http://www.rollitup.org/t/new-style-sam ... t-14046309
i think i will try to get some on alibaba instead of f-series.
contacted all suppliers i could find.
meijiu didn't reply.
hansion's qb are sold out.

another alternative may be aluminum pcb led strips with lm561c from alibaba

what u guys think

Man, this is an excellent write-up. Thanks for sharing this info; I hadn't heard of these brands.
