To calculate, start with your umol/w. Lets say your system runs at 2.5umol/w, and has 120w. This creates a flux of 300ppf. The following applies to 1m2, about 3x3ft. It can be scaled easily, your 3x4 needs 33% more then the base calculation. Your 2x8 probably needs 10-20% less.

To calculate the hourly light dose do the following: PPF x 3600 / 1000000

So for our example 300 x 3600 / 1000000 = 1.08. In a 18h cycle it would produce a DLI of 19.44. Perfect for starting veg, but needs more power or length by the end.

For my new veg area I'm using a 60 and 40w driver from TRP, and calculated that in my space running 60w I hit a DLI of 20 and running 100w I hit 30. The drivers pair with EB strips and cost about 15 euros together.

I have a 2x7 area that I could use some opinions on.

I have a bunch of bridgelux eb gen2 2 footers I was thinking of running 2 or 3 across, with 3 rows. It was just going to be for veg.

Do you think I would get away with 2 strips across 2 foot, and with 3 rows across the 7 feet?
What driver should I be using?

185w @ 2.5umol with an 18h cycle would give you a DLI of 29.97. This is perfect for later veg, but needs to be dimmed for early veg.
By driving hard with an efficient driver I guess you would be getting about 2.3 umol.

The meanwell XLG 200 24v model would give you about 185w, could pair with 6 strips to run at max, or 8 strips to run at 1000mA.

TRP has a 40w 22v driver that runs two strips at about 950mA, the driver is very efficient for its size, but still only 88% compared to 94% with the XLG. The driver is cheap though, I think I pay 5 euros buying 10 at a time.
