HLG 550 Clone

Looking to build one of my own to replace my 600W HPS Furnace in these hot summer months. Their lamp runs (4) QB288 w/ a single HLG-480H-2100A driver. I really like the splitter-connector they use on their light, but I recall reading on RIU from Robin that those are an in-house product. Are there any other driver/(4)QB___ options that may be more suitable for this application?

EDIT: Still got lots of researching to do, but I wanted to get this posted so that I may hopefully get an order placed this round of boards.

I'm still a noob at this but I wonder if one of the 3 way waterproof power splitters would work like that one they use.

I'm starting out with that same setup. 4 288's with a 480h-c2100b. Then going to add 4 of the enhanced boards once they come out..probably same driver....if you want to wire in series that 480h-c2100 is probably the best voltage match for 4 288's. there is also the 480h-54a/b or 600h-54a/b if ya want to use parallel wiring.. the 480h runs them the same as the c2100. The 600h will run 4 boards at 2800. which is really maxing it out for their single heat sinks ( the slate 5 will hold it.. its what their 600 kit uses) but you can add 2 more boards later and get them to around 1866ma 100 watts each.( ive been doing the math for that driver the most planning out my build)

You can buy the 4 boards a slate 4 and a 480h-c2100 (RapidLED has the 480h-c2100 for 139 bucks use growmau5 for discount and free shipping) for 500 bucks before tax+shipping then get your power cord wire connectors splitters ect for under 100 bucks on amazon and your having fun!!! post updates when ya start building.. I'm hoping to get stuff soon so I can start mine.

Solid answer, JGG.

I've seen those connectors on the web, I'll try to find the part number.

Here it is: https://www.leadergroup-cn.com/product/ ... -connector

With a 480H-C2100, on the output side you would need the 2 contact, 15 Amp, 250V version of the connector. I'm sure HLG would sell you one if you bought 4 boards.

what I was thinking of.. that should work on both sides of a driver correct? doing duel power lines out? and or duel parallel lines to boards?

also here is a link for the other connectors they use on their 550's

Yeah, JGG, that looks very similar as well. You could use that for the output side of the driver. I suppose you could use it to split your incoming AC to 2 drivers as well, if that's what you meant by "both sides of the driver"... As long as total current draw was less than whatever that's rated for (looks like 12A).

yea I was planning on running the AC side duel chained at 220v so it shouldn't be a problem with 12a. ( I think the hlg480's only run 2.45a in 220v) That's until I get enough knowledge about how to make a remote driver box with a power meter built in so I can see what watts and current I'm running over all :) That's a video I would like to see by someone. Growmau5 hasn't done a remote driver video yet. anyone else know of one?? I cant find any on youtube.. its all how to remote dim your epistar junk lol

JGG,

Usually when I hear "remote driver", I think of my setup - where the fixture is inside the tent with some (14 gauge) wire running thru a conduit to the driver (DC side) mounted on piece of plywood affixed to the wall.

Did you mean something different?

yea that's a "remote" driver.. getting the heat outside of the area your fixture is in.. I kind of want to do a enclosed case with meters and switches and fun toys! lol but that's down the road. i'm going to do the same thing for now. hang the driver on the wall outside like my hps ballast is atm.

I just received my 100 ft roll of 14 ga wire with my orders that just came in.. I didn't have any supplies on hand to do much. I got all my parts minus the qb boards and slate 1's.. they just shipped yesterday. my last order came from OH so it should be in the next few days :) now I gota find a half way good camera so I can take pics lol

Did you order your boards just the other day when they came back in stock? I purchased two kits that day and neither have shipped from HLG yet.
