4 QB132 / 2 QB288 build questions...

Hello! First time posting so I hope this is the appropriate place for my question(s). I have purchased 4 QB 132's and 2 QB 288's, i plan on making a 3.5'x2.5' fixture for my flower room. I'm having a lot of trouble deciding on a driver to power this monster. Im not sure if it would be possible to run everything on one driver but I figured this would be the place to bring that idea out of the box. I was planning on using two drivers, one for the 132's and one for the 288's. Id like the 132's at 50-70w each and the 288's 100+w. The option to dim the lights is nice but Id rather my quest for the best driver not depend if there is a dimable option or not. I should add that I plan on using the wiring method I saw LEDG use with a 5 port waco connector. I am throwing around the idea of 2 more QB 288's or 2 more QB 132's or possibly 4 QB 96's, seeing as this will be my primary light for flower. To kick it up a notch I'll be tossing in 4 deep red QB 11's. Id love to hear your thoughts or suggestions but would be very grateful for some driver suggestions. Hope to meet some cool like minded people in my quest to build the perfect led grow light!

welcome to the forum first off 😁. and YAY quantum board question!!! 😁

yes.. you could run both of the 132's and 288's in series on a single driver... the hlg-320h-c1750 is the perfect match... 36v+36v+52v+52v= 176v the max is 183v on that driver.. ( guesstimate on the 52v since 1400 51v and 2100 is 53v for the 288's ) at 1750ma each 132 is roughly at 60watts.. and each 288 is roughly 90watts. your running the 132's at their recommend ma.. the 288's is just under the 2100ma avg.

since you are thinking parallel( I'm guessing that's what you mean by LG'S 5 way wago😁) you gotta do dual drivers... 36v and 54v won't play nice wired that way.. hlg-240h-54 for the two 288's and a HLG-120h-36 for the 132's.. both of those would give you the power to almost max them out.. ( the 288's can hit 150w but that's pushing the efficiency down running that hard.)

dimming wise on all 3 drivers would be a A type or a B type. A type have internal dimming knobs built into the driver... two downsides are you got to have access to it to dim the light.. and you can only dim the current to 50%... plus is you can actually over draw on it.. getting slight more power from the driver... on a B type it comes with wire leads you attach a potentiometer to.. 100k ohm liner taper potentiometer is what you need for a single driver.. if you want two B types on same dimmer, you use a 50k ohm liner taper.. only real down side is not being able to over amp like a A type.. or solder on a potentiometer( can suck if you never done it) awesome thing about B type is you can make that lead to where ever you want the dimmer placed.. another plus is you can dim it down below the 50%... should be able to go all the way down to 10% ( normally we put a 10k ohm resistor on the potentiometer.. they say 100k but aren't always 100k, we bump that 10 so minimum becomes 10% over 1% but allows you to definitely hit the 100%)

I got so happy about a QB question I don't known if I answered every question for ya πŸ˜„ I'm a QB nut if you haven't noticed yet!! I'm waiting on them to drop the new boards here soon!!! so I can add to my 4 288's I got atm..

again welcome 😁 and keep the questions coming!!!

This is exactly what I need!!! Thank you sooo much! One problem.... I need this for 4 (four) qb132’s not 2 (two), as well as the 2 (two) 288’s

If you don’t mind could we do what you did up there but with 4 qb132’s? Thanks again!

hehe of course... I love my QB's 😁

THC413 lol see I got to excited about a QB question 😁. 4 132' with 2 288's is 248v.. bump up to a HLG-480h-c1750b. same amperage to each board.. and your at 248v out of a 273v limit. 😁 total your at roughly 420watts 😁 hehe 420 πŸ˜„

edit: or the same hlg240-54 for just the 288's in parallel.. but instead of the 120 for the 132's. bump up to a HLG-240h-36 for parallel 😁

Thanks again! If you don’t mind me asking do you recommend parallel or series wiring? I’ll probably go with the two separate drivers only because Id like to tey and crank up the 288’s with at least 100w each. What will the 240H-36 run the 132’s at for watts? It should be around 60w each correct? Sorry for all the questions I’m still fairly new at building my own lights, this is actually my first. Any suggestions on weather id need a heatsink on the two 288’s if I was running them on that 240H-54. Thanks again for your help

I’m going to start shopping around for a 240h-36 and 240h-54. I want both to be A type drivers for the dimmer. Any suggestions on where to get these? I’ve been looking around on arrow electronics. I figured you guys would have the inside scoop on where to get a good price. Also have been buying up aluminum angle stock to build my frame, playing around with ideas on hiw to design that as well. Having a blast with this build! Thanks for the help!

hlg-240h-36a has 6.7amps.. so yeah.. roughly 60w per qb 132. ( 1675ma each board)

octopart is a good place to search... https://octopart.com/hlg-240h-36a-mean+ ... L_xrYEcjaA

https://octopart.com/hlg-240h-54a-mean+ ... yk5WxgX_sQ

you can figure out best price along with best shipping for your area. 😁

edit: parallel or series is pretty much preference... unless it's something over 300v... that much volts won't work with the connectors in series... you gotta go parallel at that point.

This is what I’ve drawn up. Just a rough draft if what I’m going for. Any suggestions or questions welcome! This needs to cover a 4x4 area. And the board temps are as fallows:
QB 288’s : 2700k
QB 132’s : 3500k
QB 96’s. : 4000k
QB 11’s. : 660nm deep red

Aiming for somewhere around 500w total. Again please hit me with any suggestions, comments, or questions. This is my first build and I am by no means an expert! Thanks!

I am new to this forum and have a few qb questions. i have begun to put together some boards and options. Knowing what is available i was thinking for a 4x4 area to use 4 qb 132's 2700k and 4 132's 3500k staggered, little more wiring but no big deal. 2 38" boards of 2 each, 4 2700's from a 320h c1750a, and 4 3500's from a 320h c1750a. turned down a bit for 70-75 watts ea. Also have 5 qb 288's 2700k and 2 288's 3000k hear for a build, was going to run 4 288"s 2700k from a 600h 54a for one flower room, and currently running a set up of 4 qb120 3000k board along with 2 288's 3000k board set up with 2 hlg 240h c2100a drivers. will the mixture of light work or just run the strait 2700's on the 132's.
