Newbie trying to spec a very high CRI LED strip build

Strip light questions and discussions go here (Samsung, Bridgelux, Photo Boost, Growcraft, etc.)

Hello!

My name is Dustin. I'm by no means a professional who relies on quality lights but I'm ready to learn to build or assemble a grow light! I actually posted a very similar message over in the "Introduce yourself" section but I noticed that those threads don't seem to be seen so I thought I'd post here where there's more activity.

I stumbled across is forum searching for very high CRI LED lights. There was a thread mentioning Optisolis strips, but it seems most of the posts were deleted or something.

I'm looking for some very high CRI strips(flex or rigid will both work) because I'm going to start growing plants indoors and I want to run an experiment with a typical grow light setup vs a full spectrum bulb supplemented by some separate far red and uv strips or modules. I lack a lot of the knowledge for spec-ing out exactly what I want and I don't know everything that's needed such as drivers/heat sinks/power supply/etc, but I'm willing to learn.

I'd like to say that I haven't built any custom lights or anything before, but over time it feels more and more like that's a good option for my specific scenariowhere I want to see how LED light that more closelymatches real sunlight fares, so I've got some learning to do!

Looking forward to learning from this forum,
Dustin

Happy to help Dustin, we build both Optisolis strips and boards as well as 98 CRI strips using Cree

Hi Dustin, another technology you may be interested in, (especially now since their legal bullshit with Toshiba is over; https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/ ... s-Transfer), is Seoul's SunLike:

Seoul should be coming out with some new LEDs with better performance based on this tech real soon but here's something available now:

Another good place to read and learn about spectrum and building grow lights can be found here.

"There are white LEDs that use the phosphor pump from violet or ultraviolet-A LEDs. Our visibility extends down to about 400 nm, not 450 nm. They use additional broader blue phosphors instead of blue LEDs. But, violet and UV-A LEDs can never have the efficacy of blue LEDs because they have more energy in their photons. We generally wouldn't want to use these types of LEDs in grow light. Seoul Semiconductor Sunlike LEDs use violet LEDs."

And a grow panel you may be interested in. While not sun-like it is an interesting idea for getting some extended spectrum.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. I'll admit, I'm pretty lost in terms of sourcing the very high CRI strips.

The cutter website seems to have many options but I see a lot of products that say 98CRI but when I look at the specifics the led chips don't seem to be rated that high at all...not sure what I'm missing because I'm new to this stuff.

suggest you email me at [email protected], send me links to the specific strips that you need or are concerned about?
