Have any of you heathens had much success in a good tasting fruit/veggie grown hydroponically? Are your tomatoes hearty? Are your peppers spicy? I've personally not tasted a hydro pepper to my knowledge, well there was this one batch I tried... I pretty much neglected 4 or 5 plants due to there overwhelming size. I had 4 pepper plants in a hydro tote with net cups. Only the garden salsa and the thai hot's made fruit. the rest all grew, but not to fruit... The Bhut jolokia (ghost pepper) just TOWERED over the rest. I had to super crop it and brace it because it was heavier than the 3" net cup could support haha... I ended up not wasting any more nutes on them and just let them live off the tap. No fruit, but still large growth!

I just wanna be sure its not a waste to consider growing tasty peppers with hydro. Or if i should just grow my peppers organic.

peppers are like tomatoes so they shouldn't be photoperiod dependant, am I right?
How old were them?

I only grown cannabis in hydro, you shouldn't go too hard with nuts till harvest. It is the same with soil if you are using chemical fertilisers.
It could be the same with peppers. I hope to get a system up before summer.
Any video on youtube about taste?
Since you had something to harvest, how does that taste?

I think the overall growth is the same for hydro and soil, you just need to learn how to train the plant and make it grow as you want. Hydro is much faster

The Thai hots, were blan and flavorless. But that was pretty much zero nuts. Just it living off the tap lol. I'm gonna try again here soon. If Jeb gardener from youtube can care so little and make it work I shouldn't struggle too much haha.

I have had really good success with herbs like parsley, basil, sage, rosemary and dill. They are VERY potent and flavorful when compared to store bought. That's the thing with herbs tho, their flavor begins to degrade pretty much as soon as you harvest the plant.

Lettuce is also very tasty when grown hydroponically and freshly picked.

I wonder if you can stow with the roots until ready to consume? hmm.

Our hydro arugula and lettuce came out very flavorful. We were using the arugula like crazy on pizzas because it gave such a nice flavor boost. As for tomatoes, I've tasted hydro tomatoes grown using MaxiGro/Bloom and compared them with the soil grown ones, I don't really notice too much of a difference other than growth times. At the end of the day, the fresh-picked aspect of nearby tomato plants was what made the difference, whether it be soil or hydro. My 2 cents.

I appreciate the input! I've not heard of the arugula but I will look into that also! I got a pretty cool concentrated nutrient mix from my local hydroponic store the other day. The fella highly recommended it. I am looking forward to trying it out. Im almost ready to start some seeds.

Yeah, in the grocery store they wrap the hydro lettuce roots into a ball and package it in a clamshell case.

I imagine as long as the roots stay moist the lettuce will stay firm and may even grow a tiny amount for several days, or until consumed.

That’s awesome! My gf was telling me about this. Cool.
