Don't these end up quite a lot more expensive then buying f-series? is the point in getting all the light in a small area?

They are an upgrade for systems that are running cobs that can crank some serious wattage with a nice spectrum and more efficiency and light spread.
They fit in those sexy rapidled substrates so you have options.
Many DIY folks have a few generations of odd heatsink or driver flotsam floating around or just have the opportunity to upgrade an existing light.

Eh. I can't imagine it compares to say - a Citi 058-1825.

50V COB capable of almost 6A (a whopping 350+ watts from a 35mm LES)!
